Our half-day air conditioner installation turned into a longer project than expected. The worker removed our compressor (with difficulties) and the fan. Owen worked in his office, and I went for a walk to get out of everyone’s way. Milwaukee really is a beautiful city. From our spot at the marina/service center, I walked north across the river. I walked to the lighthouse and through Lakeshore State Park between the Summerfest grounds and the lake. It was a toasty day, and there were a lot of people out and about. On the other side of the park were Discovery World and the infamous Milwaukee Art Museum. I followed the path around to the sailing center, which is very near the McKinley Marina that most transients will visit for their Milwaukee stop. I did see that that Lakeshore State Park did have a few slips available with power for $1.50 per foot. There were no boats there, and I’m not sure how big a boat can fit. On my way back from my walk, I stopped at Riverfront Pizza Bar and Grill for lunch.

The good news is that it allowed us to celebrate Game 6 of the NBA Finals with the Milwaukee Bucks. We don’t follow basketball. A few years ago, the basketball team from our kids’ school advanced in the WIAA state basketball tournament. During the playoffs, our school played the high school Giannis Ante….Anet…Anetek…Giannis’ little brother attended. Giannis was there to see his little brother play. He sat at the scoring table across the gym from our school’s fans. During the game, our school’s kids chanted his name to try to get his attention. After awhile, he looked up and waved. I guess that’s all our kids needed. Our school ended up beating the other school in a buzzer beater. I Googled Giannis after that game, and thus began my loosely titled “fandom.”
At any rate, it’s not often the Bucks are in the playoffs. As a Wisconsinite, I felt it was my personal responsibility to wish them well. We stopped at Camino American Craft Beer and Eatery for dinner before walking on the Riverwalk the two miles to the Deer District with what was eventually 100,000 of our closest friends. We really had no desire to watch the game from there, just wanted to see the action. So we walked up to the gate, took a picture, took a selfie with the local news guy (he had no idea), looked around for a minute, and then headed back to the boat. We watched the game on TV. The cool part for us was that the moment the game ended, the colors on the Hoan Bridge near us changed colors, and the bar just down the street had fireworks. What a special day for Milwaukee!
