Nashville to Clarksville: Movin’ to the ‘burbs

Our time in Nashville has come to an end. We left on a beautiful Saturday morning. As we were packing up, we heard the unexpected sound of a Jody. We looked above us and saw the heads of a military unit (like, the actual heads, not the leaders, necessarily) marching across the bridge. The part of their jody that stuck with us aaaaaaallllllll day (and now today, too, thanks to this post) was: “left, left, a whooole lotta le-eft.” It was September 11 that day, and we assume they were headed to a remembrance ceremony somewhere nearby.

It was a gorgeous day to make the 60+ mile trip back to Clarksville, which was blissfully uneventful. Our lock luck continued. As we were approaching the lock, our AIS showed us an oncoming tow in the lock and another tow waiting to go the other way. As we got closer, we passed the waiting tow that was pulled over to the side and seemed to be settled in. We approached the lock, and the lockmaster very, very, very kindly said to just wait for the tow that was in the lock to come out and we could go in without waiting for the other tow. What could have been a wait of a few hours ended up being just a few short minutes! At the Clarksville Marina, we fueled up, pumped out, and eased into our slip.

Then it was time to pack up and Uber/Lyft back to Nashville to the airport so we could do some exciting things with family. We were happy to welcome our second grandchild, visit with family, and watch some good football. We also watched some bad football, but we weren’t as happy about that part.

Clarksville is a great place to leave the boat. The Lyft/Uber to the airport is about $80ish and takes about an hour. The slips are covered and behind a locked gate. The marina itself is barely visible from the parking lot, so I’m not even sure how many people know it’s there–our Instacart delivery person couldn’t find it. The downside is the crazy amount of spiders with an endless supply of webs. They are everywhere! The upside is there are very few mosquitos. So, the “downside” is redeemable.

We’re ready to get moving again and get some miles behind us!
