New York, NY, to Croton-on-Hudson, NY: A Pretty Awesome Birthday

Before we went to bed, we thought it would be pretty cool to see the sun rise over Manhattan. We are not normally get-up-at-the-crap-of-dawn-yes-I-said-crap type of people when the crap-of-dawn is that early but how many times are we going to be hanging out at 5:24 am in front of one of the most famous skylines in the world? Once. Just once.

So we got up and were disappointed in the cloudy skies. But sometimes these things work out, and what a beautiful sunrise we saw before the sun popped behind the clouds! This is the picture our neighbor boat later sent us of our boat at sunrise:

And then we went back to bed.

We got up in time to meet our boat buddies in front of the Statue of Liberty to take pictures of each other. It was cloudy and sprinkling, but WHO CARES?! Here’s our shot:

Then our photo buddies headed up the Hudson, but we cruised up the East River so that we could go under the Brooklyn Bridge and to see the other side of Manhattan. We turned around at the United Nations building and went back under the Brooklyn Bridge, around the tip of Manhattan and then up the Hudson. We enjoyed taking pictures of sites old and new.

The big city turned to hilly countryside in a surprisingly short time. Again, the topography is a stark change from the flatness of our country’s southeast. Hints of the city remained as passenger trains sped by on the river’s edge.

We made our way to Half Moon Bay Marina in Croton-on-Hudson. It was a hoppin’ joint. Nebo showed a lot of Looper boats docked, and our dockhand, Doug, was insanely busy. We slid into our narrow slip with Doug’s help, and we hooked up our 30 amp to save a little cash. Our boat is equipped with both one 30 amp receptacle and one 50 amp. We are able to function on 30 amp if we only use one of our two air conditioners. It’s an easy sacrifice to make on these nice weather days to save a few dollars at marinas that charge for electric.

We met up with some of our buddy boaters whose pictures we took and who took ours. We walked to 105 Twenty Bar and Grill for a fun dinner. We’re here for a few days for Owen to work.
