Carthew Bay, ON, to Orillia, ON: Weeds, Weeds, and More Weeds

After two nights in Carthew Bay, the anchor came up in the morning with a little extra effort. We were eager to make the short journey to Orillia so Owen could catch a pre-arranged ride to Toronto to catch a flight for work. We stopped at Bridge Port Marina for fuel and a pumpout. The nice thing about fuel in Canada is that it’s measured in liters. So right from the start, it looks cheaper. However, the gentleman who helped us said that it’s about $11 a gallon. Oof. I think he meant in Canadian dollars, so a little less in US dollars.

After our fuel tank was full and our holding tank was empty, we headed just a couple more miles to the Port of Orillia marina. The water is so stinking clear! As we got closer to the marina, we saw the weeds we were warned about. They are just everywhere and so thick! We could even see where some boats left “scars” where their propellers cut through them. Our depth finders were going nuts. We knew the depth was there, but the weeds were so thick that the depth finders couldn’t cut through the solid mass.

We loved that this marina assigned us a slip ahead of time and gave us a map. We knew exactly where we were going. We eased into our weedy slip and were tied up in no time. We checked in and found a nice boaters area with great bathrooms and free laundry. Similar in style and almost as nice as the Trent Port Marina in Trenton.

Owen packed up and headed to the airport, and I tried to figure out what I was going to do all week. I was pretty sure I wouldn’t have a hard time finding places to go!
